Veterans Monument Fundraising

Veterans Monument proposed design

Located prominently on Main Street in the Post Office Place, the Davidson Veterans Monument will be an important and fitting addition to the Town of Davidson. This impactful sculpture was designed by artist Douwe Blumberg and is a tribute to those who have honorably served to defend our country and support our way of life.

“Flames of Honor” is a contemporary vision utilizing the skyward motion of three silver arcs to lead into a stained-glass, illuminated flame. The flames are fabricated from extra-thick, outdoor safety glass suspended amongst the arcs with thin aircraft cables, so that they appear to float in mid-air. These glass flames are illuminated from within using commercial LED lights and controllers. The lower sections of the arcs are satin finished, while the upper areas surrounding the flame are highly polished to catch, mirror and reflect the flame’s colors during the day, and its’ illumination at night.

The seals of all branches of the United States military will be cast in bronze or aluminum and will be represented on the sculpture or at the base of the sculpture. Landscaping and seating will be added around the sculpture while allowing for accessibility. An American flag will also be present at the monument site.
Veterans Monument location mapLocated close to the intersection of Main Street and Concord Road in Davidson, this site was chosen for its high foot traffic and visibility in town. It will attract veterans, citizens, and visitors of all generations. The site is approximately .2 acre and sits in front of the United States Post Office. On August 26, 1984 the Davidson Board of Commissioners directed that the Post Office Plaza henceforth be known as the Nancy H. MacCormac Plaza after the town’s first female mayor that served from 1978-1984.
