ReadDavidson selected Guests on Earth by award-winning Southern author Lee Smith for its 2015 program. Guests on Earth is set at Highland Mental Hospital in Asheville, N.C., during the years 1936-1948, the year of the terrible fire in which Zelda Fitzgerald perished along with eight other female patients in a locked ward on the top floor.
ReadDavidson, an annual town-wide reading initiative that started in 2007, is a partnership between the Davidson Public Library, Main Street Books, the Town of Davidson, and several local avid readers. The ReadDavidson committee encourages people to read a selected book and attend fun and educational book-related events that make the book come to life. This year’s events are scheduled for September and October. This program season culminates with a visit by the author on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m at the Davidson College Lilly Family Gallery, presented in partnership with the Department of English. All members of the community are invited to attend these free-of-charge events.
The ReadDavidson initiative would not be possible without the support of the following sponsors:
Main Street Books
Davidson Public Library
PostNet
DavidsonLearns
Davidson College Department of English and the
Town of Davidson.
