The Town of Davidson invites the community to participate in “Around” Town Day on May 1. This year, we are going back to the roots of Town Day and focusing on service. We will be offering multiple community service projects throughout town which you can learn more about on the town’s website: www.townofdavidson.org/townday.
Town Day was originally started in the 1960s by Davidson resident Annie Mildred Lowry. Heeding the wisdom of her remarkable mother, Minnie, who believed that whatever you own, you must keep clean, Annie organized several town clean-ups that ended with one large community picnic. These community clean-up efforts became the foundation for Town Day.
“Davidson, being a family place, is a community of love, and love prevails when other things fail,” says Annie Mildred Lowry who has been a resident of Davidson since her birth, over 80 years ago.
Although the town will host a Lake Davidson shoreline cleanup, we are encouraging local businesses, organizations, and neighborhood associations to submit and organize possible projects to lead on May 1. If you are with a local business, organization, and/or neighborhood association, please let us know if you have interest in leading a project; Davidson Parks & Recreation can help with ideas. Email them at email@example.com.
